Long Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT) & SRUT – Short Range Ultrasonic Testing

Long Range Ultrasonic Testing (LRUT), also known as guided wave ultrasonic testing, is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to inspect long lengths of structures like pipelines from a single test location. It utilizes low-frequency ultrasonic waves, specifically guided waves (Lamb waves), to detect and characterize defects like corrosion, erosion, and wall thinning. LRUT is particularly effective for inspecting inaccessible or hard-to-reach areas, like buried or insulated pipelines, where conventional ultrasonic testing might be difficult.

Short Range Ultrasonic Testing (SRUT) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect corrosion and other defects in hard-to-reach areas like under pipe supports or in tank annular platesIt utilizes guided waves to inspect materials while the plant or asset is in service, particularly useful for inspecting annular rings under tank shells.
